Old Testament Prophets Timeline

About this Lesson

The arrangement of the books in our Bibles makes it very difficult to understand them in their historical context. They are not in any kind of order historically or in any other way that makes sense. When we do understand when they took place and who they were speaking to their messages make sense and we can see how well they apply to our current lives.

This chart will help you give you an idea of who was speaking when. It divides the history of the prophets into FOUR MAJOR SECTIONS after the nation of Israel split into two parts:

1. The prophets who primarily spoke to Israel before it was conquered by Assyria
2. The prophets who spoke primarily to Judah before it was conquered by Babylon
3. The prophets who spoke during the Babylonian captivity
4. The prophets who spoke after the Babylonian captivity and when the Jews returned to their land
